The Ruhrverband's Historical Collection
Do you feel like exciting water stories of the River Ruhr and its tributaries? The house of the "Historical Collection of Ruhr Water Management" can be found in Essen's Rellinghausen district, right next to a former sewage treatment plant. The building dating back to the early 20th century originally served as a gas transfer station for Essen's municipal utility company. Starting in 1996, the Ruhrverband restored the building, preserving much of the basic structure. Today, the first floor houses a seminar room and a historical library. On the lower level, contemporary exhibits and documents provide insight into the development of water management along the Ruhr. Groups and school classes are requested to schedule their visit of the exhibition by calling +49 201 178-1161.
