Diving in the Ruhrverband reservoirs

Four of the eight Ruhrverband dams, the Bigge, Henne, Möhne and Sorpe dams, have designated diving sites.

In the Biggetal dam, diving is permitted at the Kraghammer Sattel (subject to registration), at the Biggesee diving school (for training purposes only) and in the Weuste diving area (without prior registration). At the Kraghammer Sattel, the lake is up to 42 metres deep when full. The Weuste diving area, with a maximum depth of 23 metres, is also suitable for beginners thanks to its shallow entry.

Bookings for diving at Kraghammer Sattel (also possible online).

Diving is possible all year round in the Sorpe dam - the Sorpesee diving school operates a summer and a winter diving site (both subject to a fee). However, ice dives are not possible. The winter diving site is open from 15 November to 31 March, the summer diving site from 1 April to 14 November.

The dive site on Lake Möhne is located on the southern shore, west of the Delecker Bridge in Delecker Bay. The diving area, a former quarry with a sandy bottom, is demarcated by buoys. Diving is not permitted outside the marked diving area. The piers of the Delecker Bridge are not part of the diving area. A path along the edge of the quarry leads from the car park, which is particularly busy in the summer months, to the entry point. Diving is possible all year round in the Möhne dam - the PRODIVE diving school operates the diving site (subject to a fee).
