Advice on operational wastewater treatment

Advancing water protection together

The Ruhrverband's catchment area is characterised by industrial and commercial companies whose production wastewater influences the inflow of many wastewater treatment plants. Since the 1960s, the Ruhrverband's industrial advisory service has been supporting these companies.

Chemical-physical wastewater pre-treatment in industrial companies is a key contribution to water protection. Today, in addition to issues of advanced industrial wastewater technology and extensive authorisation procedures, current topics such as micropollutants from production wastewater are also addressed.

This is a common concern: The pre-treatment of wastewater in the factories and the final biological treatment at the Ruhrverband's plants must be harmonised from an economic point of view. This requires an early dialogue at a technical level. Involving the Ruhrverband at an early stage can prevent planning errors and ensure that the common goal - clean water - is economically viable.

It goes without saying that we work in partnership and maintain personal contact between the wastewater managers of the companies and our industrial consultants. In the event of operational problems with wastewater pre-treatment or incidents, we are always available to help prevent damage to water ecology. Industrial companies benefit from information that leads to more efficient processes and the Ruhrverband benefits from the reduction or avoidance of problematic substances.

Micropollutants are an important issue for the Ruhrverband, as they are for many industrial companies. Perfluorinated chemicals, sulfolane and benzotriazoles are just a few examples of problematic substances in the aquatic environment. The Ruhrverband supports industrial companies with its knowledge and experience on the subject of micropollutants.
