Floodplain development and ecological forestry earn eco-points.
With its eco-account, the Ruhrverband can compensate for necessary interventions in nature and the landscape. The members of the Ruhrverband also benefit from the eco-points earned - please contact us.
Areas renaturalised by the Ruhrverband serve as ecological compensation within the meaning of the nature conservation impact regulation in connection with construction measures (sewage treatment plants, rainwater treatment plants).
For example, in the early summer of 1999, a former arable area near Essen-Kettwig was reorganised. An extensive, dense alluvial forest has been created on the approximately ten-hectare Oefte area in the Ruhraue. The entire area is recognised by the responsible authorities as compensation both for forest conversions under forestry law and for past and future interventions in nature and the landscape ("eco-account").
As partial compensation for the construction of the Essen-Süd sewage treatment plant, an island meadow landscape was created on the approximately eight-hectare Ruhrinsel Rellinghausen in 2003. For this purpose, a campsite had to be removed and large areas of embankments had to be cleared in order to reach the floodplain level. Trees appropriate to the location were preserved. The creation of floodplain water bodies such as flood troughs and an oxbow lake created a variety of refuges for fish.
In 2021, a further area of around 7 hectares on the Deilbach in the Essen/Hattingen/Velbert city triangle was redesigned as a near-natural floodplain landscape and set up as an eco-account.
