Water management from a single source
The Ruhrverband offers its member municipalities watercourse maintenance in the catchment area and is therefore responsible for the proper flow of water. The Ruhrverband has already taken over water maintenance for the municipalities of Ennepetal, Fröndenberg, Schmallenberg (in part), Herscheid (in part) and the entire district of Olpe.
But what exactly does water maintenance involve?
Watercourse maintenance refers to the care and development of surface waters in order to maintain their proper condition and promote their ecological functionality. This includes measures to ensure the flow of water, to maintain the banks and bed of the watercourse and to promote natural habitats for plants and animals.
Typical watercourse maintenance activities include, for example
- Mowing embankments and banks
- Sediment removal
- Pruning of trees and shrubs on the banks
- typical bank planting
- Removal of flow obstacles
- Checking and establishing river continuity
- Regular checks
In addition, the Ruhrverband is available to the municipalities and authorities as a contact partner, for example in the event of heavy rainfall.
