Diversity of fish species

The recipe for success for the excellent fish stocks in the Ruhrverband's reservoirs is their professional management. The Ruhrverband's fisheries experts are guided by management objectives that have been individually developed for each reservoir. Targeted management and stocking measures have created good fish stocks. In addition to whitefish and carp, the reservoirs are home to excellent stocks of perch, pike, vendace, lake trout, arctic char and pikeperch.

Thanks to their excellent fish stocks, the Ruhrverbands reservoirs not only attract anglers from the surrounding area, but also from all over NRW and even from other federal states.

Remarkable predatory fish stocks

The Ruhrverband reservoirs are known for their excellent predatory fish stocks: Here, large lake trout, pike, zander, perch and catfish make their runs. Whitefish and vendace anglers also get their money's worth at the Henne, Möhne, Sorpe, Bigge and Lister dams. The shallow reservoir forebays are excellent spots for carp and whitefish anglers. Good stocks of eel complete the diverse range of interesting fishing opportunities.

Sustainability and nature conservation

The Ruhrverband attaches great importance to the protection and sustainable utilisation of natural resources. The fisheries management of our reservoirs contributes to the improvement of water quality. It also serves to create ecologically valuable and site-specific biocoenoses and to optimise the quality and attractiveness of the fish stocks. The aim of professional management is to create and maintain species-rich, healthy fish stocks that are optimally adapted to the reservoir habitat.

Rules and regulations

A fishing licence and a fishing permit are required for fishing in the Ruhrverbands reservoirs. With the combined annual licence, a fishing licence for the Henne, Möhne, Sorpe and Biggetal dams as well as the non-protected part of the Listertal dam, over 2,000 hectares of water in the region can be fished. Of course, annual, weekly, two-day and daily licences can also be purchased for the reservoirs within the area of validity of the combined annual licence, which are then only valid for a specific reservoir. The drinking water reservoirs of the Ruhrverband - i.e. the Ennepe, Verse and Fürwigge reservoirs and the protected part of the Lister reservoir - may only be fished with annual licences, which are issued in limited numbers. The fishing licences (fishing permit contracts) for the Ruhrverband dams are available either in the online shop or at the usual issuing points.

Fishing-friendly conditions

The Ruhrverband also promotes the attractiveness of its reservoirs for recreational anglers with angling-friendly conditions such as night fishing permits in the summer months, the free use of rowing boats and authorisation to use electric motors.

The safe operation of the reservoirs, the protection of nature and the protection of the interests of other water sports enthusiasts are always an important concern. Fishing is therefore not permitted in protected and breeding areas, in the vicinity of technical facilities and in areas reserved for other dam uses. In this way, the Ruhrverband ensures that the reservoirs with their diverse range of functions remain attractive fishing grounds in the future.
