Efficient management of forests and reservoirs in the Ruhre catchment area

The forests and reservoirs in the Ruhr catchment area are managed in accordance with the latest forestry and fishing knowledge.

Our forest areas cover around 3,100 hectares and mainly surround the eight Ruhrverband dams. The management of these forests is based on the latest forestry knowledge about the forest ecosystem. Water protection, the promotion of biotope and species diversity and the enhancement of the scenic attractiveness of the reservoirs take centre stage.

The fisheries management of our lakes primarily contributes to improving water quality. It also promotes the creation of ecologically valuable and site-typical biocoenoses and the optimisation of the quality and attractiveness of the fish stocks. The management of the Ruhrverband lakes is based on the natural model of the pre-alpine lakes. We have established outstanding fish stocks through targeted management and stocking measures. In addition to whitefish and carp, our lakes also have excellent stocks of perch, pike, vendace, lake trout, Arctic char and pikeperch.
