The Ruhrverband invites you to an open day at the Biggetal sewage treatment plant
What actually happens to the water once it goes down the drain? How is
polluted wastewater turned back into clean water that can be returned to the natural water cycle
? You can find answers to these and many other questions at the
open day at the Biggetal sewage treatment plant.
On Sunday, 31 May 2026, the Ruhrverband will open the gates of the
Biggetal Wastewater Treatment Plant at Ahauser Mühle 5 in Finnentrop-Heggen from 10 am to 4 pm and cordially
invites all interested parties to take a look behind the scenes of modern wastewater treatment.
Visitors will have the opportunity to get up
close and personal with the work at a sewage treatment plant and experience the processes that ensure, day in, day out, that
water bodies are protected and water resources are managed sustainably. Ruhrverband staff
will be on hand to answer questions and provide
fascinating insights into the various stages of wastewater treatment.
Those interested in technology will find plenty to enjoy, as will families, as there is plenty on offer for younger visitors
too: fun and games make the day an
experience for young and old alike. Naturally, refreshments will also be available. Food
and drinks will be on hand, inviting visitors to round off their visit in a relaxed atmosphere
.
