Ruhrverband implements urgent road safety measures at Lake Harkort

Diversions and closures of the Ruhr Valley cycle path and footpath are to be expected.

In recent months, numerous trees have died on the right-hand embankment areas on the water side along the beach path at Harkortsee on the Wetteran side due to wind breakage, rotting or lack of vitality. These must now be removed at short notice in order to prevent further blockages caused by flotsam, rubbish and floating debris and to ensure the necessary road safety on the Ruhr Valley cycle path. There is also a risk that fallen tree trunks could impair the operation of the weir system.

The tree felling and clearing work is expected to take place for a week from 24 February 2025 . The Ruhr Valley cycle path and footpath will be closed during this construction phase and diversions will be signposted.

The Ruhrverband asks for your understanding for possible restrictions during this time and would like to thank all those involved for their cooperation in carrying out this work, which is important for the safety of the waterways and the surrounding infrastructure.
