Möhne dam: deep water aeration is being stopped again
The Ruhrverband will discontinue the precautionary deep water aeration of the Möhne Dam next weekend (5 October 2025). The system had been in operation since 4 September to prevent temperature stratification from forming in the reservoir, which would trap cold-loving fish species at the bottom of the lake. At around four and a half weeks, it was one of the shortest aeration periods at the Möhne Dam in recent years. This could be related to the current maintenance work on the equalisation pond, which meant that only a consistently low volume of water was released via the bottom outlet over the entire aeration period. The ban on fishing in the area surrounding the oxygen enrichment plant during aeration will no longer apply from 6 October 2025.
