Annual sewer network inspection in Meschede has begun

North-eastern city centre in the focus of routine cleaning and camera inspections

The Ruhrverband has begun its annual routine inspection of the sewer network in the north-eastern city centre area of Meschede. The work is taking place in the area east of Warsteiner Straße and north of the Ruhr and is expected to last until the end of the year. The inspection as part of the ordinance on the self-monitoring of wastewater systems (Self-Monitoring Ordinance for Wastewater - SüwVO Abw) covers around 30 kilometres of public sewers and serves to ensure the long-term operability of the municipal wastewater infrastructure.

At the beginning of the work, all manholes and pipes are cleaned with a flushing truck to ensure an optimal view of possible damaged areas. The sewer network is then inspected using a mobile panoramic camera. The camera vehicle travels through the sewers and creates detailed images, which are then analysed. In the event of any defects or wear and tear, the necessary repair measures can then be planned.

The work will largely take place underground and is therefore only expected to cause short-term traffic disruptions at the manhole entrances. Property owners in the affected area will generally not be affected by the work, as long as the wastewater pipes on their property are properly installed.

If the inspection trips by the special camera reveal any damage in need of repair, this may result in more extensive construction work, which may also have an impact on road traffic depending on the location and type of work. The Ruhrverband apologises for any inconvenience this may cause.
