There are still places available: ‘Ferienspatz’ on the trail of wastewater

We all need water – for drinking, cooking, bathing, washing clothes and flushing the toilet. This amounts to between 120 and 130 litres per person every day, most of which ends up as waste water in the sewers. But where do the sewer pipes actually lead, and what happens to this dirty water once it gets there? You can find the answers at Essen’s ‘Ferienspatz’ summer holiday programme.

In Kupferdreh, wastewater from almost 100,000 residents and businesses in the districts of Kupferdreh, Byfang, Überruhr and Heisingen, as well as the towns of Velbert-Neviges and Hattingen-Winzermark in the Niederbergisch region, is treated. After treatment, the water regains river water quality and flows back into the Ruhr.
