There are still places available: "Ferienspatz" on the trail of wastewater

Ruhrverband invites you to visit the Essen-Kupferdreh sewage treatment plant during the autumn holidays

We all need water - for drinking, cooking, bathing, washing clothes and flushing the toilet. This adds up to between 120 and 130 litres per person every day, most of which disappears into the sewer system as wastewater. But where do the sewer pipes actually go and what happens to this dirty water? Answers to these questions can be found at the "Ferienspatz" holiday event in Essen.

When: 15 October 2025 at 10 a.m.
How long: Duration of the tour approx. 2 hours
Where: Essen-Kupferdreh sewage treatment plant at Kampmannsbrücke 13
Who for: Interested families (minors must be accompanied!)
How to do it: Please register by phone on 0201/178-1161.

In Kupferdreh, the wastewater from almost 100,000 residents and businesses from the districts of Kupferdreh, Byfang, Überruhr, Heisingen and the towns of Velbert-Neviges and Hattingen-Winzermark in the Niederberg region is treated. The water then has river water quality again and flows back into the Ruhr.
