Participating interests and subsidiaries of the Ruhrverband
In addition to its statutory tasks, the Ruhrverband has further tasks and business areas that are covered by its own subsidiaries and shareholdings in other companies. This also enables the Ruhrverband to make its water management expertise, many years of experience and know-how available to its members and other interested parties.
Lister und Lennekraftwerke GmbH (LLK) has been operating hydropower plants on the Lenne, Möhne and Ruhr rivers and on the Ruhrverband dams for many decades. The hydropower plants generate around 63 million kilowatt hours of environmentally friendly electricity every year.
The age and different types of construction of the hydropower plants require individualised operation, maintenance and monitoring. All operational tasks are carried out in close co-operation by employees of LLK and the Ruhrverband.
RWG Ruhr-Wasserwirtschafts-Gesellschaft mbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Ruhrverband, is primarily active in the field of engineering and consulting. The range of services extends from sewer and sewage treatment plant planning to the operational management of sewer networks and the investigation of extraneous water through to the turnkey construction of water and sewage plants. It also includes flood protection, watercourse development, ecology and fisheries. A qualified team of engineers, business people, natural scientists and lawyers has been offering comprehensive expertise in the fields of water, the environment and construction since 1995, based on the Ruhrverband's more than 100 years of experience in water management.
WFA Elverlingsen GmbH, a joint subsidiary of Ruhrverband and Mark-E, operates a fluidised bed combustion plant in Werdohl-Elverlingsen for the thermal utilisation of sewage sludge and hard coal. The plant can incinerate up to 180,000 tonnes of dewatered sewage sludge per year, whereby the steam generated is used to generate energy and the flue gas is cleaned using a highly efficient filter system. The range of services includes the disposal of municipal and industrial sewage sludge, consulting and the creation of logistics concepts.
